Amazon WorkSpaces maps to Azure Virtual Desktop (you run the session hosts) and Windows 365 (fully managed per-user Cloud PCs). WorkSpaces Personal is closest to Windows 365, and WorkSpaces Pools is closest to pooled Azure Virtual Desktop.
- Multi-session. Windows 11/10 Enterprise multi-session (many users per VM) is exclusive to Azure Virtual Desktop, which can lower costs for pooled desktops. WorkSpaces Pools uses per-user sessions on ephemeral infrastructure.
- Lifecycle. WorkSpaces Pools and the PCoIP protocol reach end of support on June 30, 2027, so new WorkSpaces deployments should use Personal on DCV. Azure Virtual Desktop (classic) retired Sep 30, 2026, so use ARM host pools.
- Operating systems. WorkSpaces offers Windows, Ubuntu, Rocky Linux, and RHEL desktops. Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365 are Windows-focused.
