Custom AI training silicon (rentable) No equivalent
Azure has no rentable equivalent of AWS Trainium. Microsoft's Maia 200 is an inference accelerator used behind Microsoft Foundry and Microsoft 365 Copilot, not sold as VMs (the SDK is in preview).
- Trainium is rentable as EC2 Trn1/Trn2 instances and Trn3 UltraServers (GA Dec 2, 2025, up to 144 Trainium3 chips), and through SageMaker HyperPod. You program it with the Neuron SDK (native PyTorch).
- Maia 200 (announced Jan 26, 2026) is in Azure US Central (US West 3 next), serves models such as OpenAI GPT on Foundry, and offers a Maia SDK preview. There are no Maia VM SKUs.
- On Azure, the practical alternative for training is ND-series NVIDIA or AMD MI300X VMs.
