AutoML Direct match

SageMaker Autopilot (now surfaced in SageMaker Canvas) maps to Azure Machine Learning automated ML.

  • Azure AutoML covers classification, regression, forecasting, computer vision (image classification, detection, segmentation), and NLP, from code or the studio UI.
  • Autopilot's UI moved to Canvas in 2023, and the Autopilot APIs remain for code users.
  • Azure AutoML for images is Microsoft's recommended replacement for the retiring Custom Vision.

No-code ML for analysts Partial match

SageMaker Canvas maps partially to the no-code AutoML UI and Designer in Azure Machine Learning studio. Azure has no single analyst-focused product with the same scope.

  • Canvas bundles data prep, AutoML (tabular, time series, text, image), ready-to-use models (document, vision, language), and foundation-model chat in one analyst app. It's also the recommended path for Forecast customers.
  • On Azure, analysts typically use the AutoML UI or Designer in Azure ML studio, or the Fabric Data Science and Power BI AI features. Those are separate products, not one app.

Time-series forecasting Partial match

Amazon Forecast (no new customers since July 2024) maps to Azure Machine Learning AutoML forecasting. AWS itself points Forecast users to SageMaker Canvas.

  • Forecast was a turnkey forecasting API. Azure AutoML forecasting trains and deploys models in your workspace, so you manage endpoints and retraining.
